Woman found on fire near Duluth college may be criminal case

DULUTH, Minn. -- The Duluth Police Department is seeking witnesses after a woman was found severely burned on State Highway 23 near Lake Superior College’s Fire Training Center.

Police responded to a report of a woman on fire at 11501 Highway 23 at 1:59 p.m. Thursday. The woman was transported to a local hospital with what police described as life-threatening injuries.

The incident is being treated as a criminal investigation, police said. Lake Superior College officials told WDIO-TV that the woman was not a student or teacher at the college.

Authorities did not identify the woman or provide any further information Thursday night.

Police want to talk to anyone who may have been on Highway 23 near the area of the Fire Training Center during the time of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Duluth Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit at (218) 730-5050 or call 911.
