Earn $35 when retiring a refrigerator

Is it time to retire your refrigerator, or flip your freezer for a new model?

Doing so can earn you $35 and save another $150 per year on your electric bill.

"Focus on Energy will pick up your old, working refrigerator or freezer for free, responsibly recycle it, and send you $35," said Casey Langan, spokesman for Wisconsin's Focus on Energy program.

Focus on Energy's Appliance Recycling Program is open to customers of participating Wisconsin utilities, including Superior Water, Light & Power and Dahlberg Light & Power Company.

Schedule your free pick up by visiting or calling (800)-354-1898.

"You'll receive a call one to two days in advance of your appointment with a four-hour window of time when you can expect our team to arrive," Langan said. "The driver will inspect to verify your appliance is standard size (10-30 cubic feet) and in working condition. Mini-fridges are not eligible."

Within four to six weeks you will receive your $35 incentive check by mail.

Participants must be residents of single-family homes or multifamily residences of three or fewer units. Two appliances may be recycled per household, per year.

Focus on Energy has recycled nearly 65,000 refrigerators and freezers since 2012.
