Motorcycle crash kills Minnesota high school senior day before graduation

ROSEVILLE , Minn. -- A Roseville Area High School senior was killed in a motorcycle crash the day before graduation.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Declan Ronan Raverty, 17, of Roseville died late Thursday afternoon in Oak Park Heights when his motorcycle struck an SUV.

Raverty’s Harley-Davidson was northbound on Minnesota 95 at 4:45 p.m. when he hit a Cadillac Escalade that was exiting Sunnyside Marina and attempting to cross the highway and turn south.

The motorcycle hit the rear of the SUV and then came to a rest in the middle of the northbound lanes of Highway 95.

Raverty died at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

A passenger on the motorcycle, Katie Rose Pagel, 20, of Roseville suffered injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.

The driver of the SUV, Douglas Arthur Hesley, 73, of Stillwater, was not injured.

The collision remains under investigation by the State Patrol.

Raverty was to be honored during the graduation ceremony with a moment of silence and an empty chair.
