A total of 23,454 positive cases of COVID-19 were reported in Wisconsin as of Wednesday, June 17, according to the state Department of Health Services . That's an increase of 256 cases from the day before.
Nine additional people have died from COVID-19 Wednesday, leaving the total number of deaths in the state at 712.
The number of negative tests in the state was 423,736 an increase of 9,406 from the day before.
Douglas County reported no new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, leaving its total at 20 with 1,863 people who tested negative for the illness, according to DHS. The county last saw an increase in cases on Saturday, June 6.
Among the people in Douglas County who tested positive, one is currently fighting the virus, while 19 have recovered, DHS reported.

Bayfield County had no additional cases reported Wednesday, leaving its total at three, with 809 people who tested negative. Bayfield County has reported one death from COVID-19. The other two people in the county who contracted the virus have recovered, DHS reported.
Elsewhere in northwestern Wisconsin, Burnett County had two confirmed cases, one death and 690 negative tests for the virus; Washburn County had three confirmed cases and a total of 967 negative tests; Sawyer County had nine positive cases and 1,597 people who tested negative; and Ashland County had three confirmed cases with 631 negative tests, DHS said.
Of the people who have tested positive for the new coronavirus, 13% — or 3,128 people — have been hospitalized because of the virus as of Wednesday. DHS reported that officials don't know the hospitalization history of 6,684 people, or 28%.
Wednesday's report also showed that 75% of those with confirmed cases have recovered from the illness.
Wisconsin's daily testing capacity was 16,668 as of Wednesday . An increase in the number of tests being done is one reason for the increase in the number of positive cases. The percentage of positive tests over the last several days was:
- 2.8% on Wednesday, June 10
- 3.6% on Thursday, June 11
- 2.8% on Friday, June 12
- 2.4% on Saturday, June 13
- 2.6% on Sunday, June 14
- 2.8% on Monday, June 15
- 2.4% on Tuesday, June 16
- 2.6% on Wednesday, June 17
All of Wisconsin's 72 counties have confirmed cases of the illness.
