Come for the race, stay for the party. Make sure to be in Canal Park during Grandma's Marathon weekend to hear some of the region's best bands.
Kicking off the weekend's festivities at 8 p.m. Friday, June 19 is Root City Band, a Minneapolis-based band making its Grandma's Marathon debut. Also performing is Grandma's Marathon crowd-pleaser Christy Love & You Know Who, featuring former members of Boogie Wonderland. Headliner GB Leighton, celebrating its 13th year of energizing the crowds with soulful rock, takes the stage at 11:30 p.m.
Saturday's daytime lineup features free shows open for all ages. The lineup kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with Jacked, a high-energy band out of northern Minnesota. Root City Band will be back on stage at 1:00 p.m. followed by Christy Love & You Know Who. GB Leighton takes the stage at 4 p.m. to close out the afternoon lineup.
Saturday night's show starts off with the Root City Band, voted "Reader's Choice Best Blues Band 2006" by City Pages. Christy Love & You Know Who follows will their high-energy music combining pop, funk and disco. Finally, the spotlight turns back to headliner GB Leighton for the final set to close out the weekend.
"We are excited about the great mix of live bands for this year's live entertainment. GB Leighton is a longtime tradition at Grandma's Marathon, and we're glad they're back with us for another year under The Big Top Tent," says Scott Keenan, executive director of Grandma's Marathon.

The Saturday afternoon performances are free and open to the public. The Friday and Saturday evening shows include an $8 cover charge and are limited to those 21 years of age and older.
