With the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center closed, the American Legion post that shares the name of World War II’s Ace of Aces will not have a place to meet for the foreseeable future.

The Richard I. Bong American Legion posts offices will not be open for meetings, but members are still available by phone and email.

And its Honor Guard stands ready to support functions honoring veterans allowed under state and federal mandates during the novel coronavirus health emergency.

The Honor Guard still has access to rifles and flags for funeral ceremonies, member Troy Magnuson said. However, he said Honor Guard members should use good judgment to avoid spreading disease or becoming infected themselves.

“Our members' health is the most important thing to us,” Magnuson said.
