A sanitary sewer overflow occurred from a wastewater force main on the north side of East Second Street, near Bluff Creek.

The overflow, which was reported about 12:06 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, ended about 12:40 p.m. when pumping from the lift station was stopped. Superior Environmental Services Division of Public Works personnel responded to the incident.

A contractor has made the necessary repairs to the force main, and restoration of the area will be completed as soon as possible, according to Erin Abramson of the Environmental Services Division. She said an estimated 3,360 gallons of wastewater was discharged before the lift station was turned off.

Residents should avoid contact with any sanitary sewer overflow due to the potential for exposure to disease-causing organisms.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has been notified of the incident.
