Well, it's that time of year again when we think about renewal. The New Year encourages us into new experiences in order to renew our selves. We take assessments of our lives and select what to improve with the hope we will be renewed. However, our efforts tend to fail because the change we need is often greater than we can pull off, leaving us doubt if we could ever be new.

But what if you are already new? You may not have to recreate yourself. Maybe you only need to recognize your newness.

2 Corinthians 5:17 states, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here." God makes every person who places their trust in Him, into a new creature. He pronounces our old nature dead, and replaces it with a new nature. Thus our challenge is not to make ourselves new, but to recognize that God has already made us new.

Recognizing our newness requires us to bring closure to our old life God has declared dead. Quit trying to revive what is no longer alive. Let it fade from your life, not to be heard from again.

Give free reign to the new you, created by God, to experience all of the benefits of living a God empowered life. Enjoy what God is doing in you now.

If you are in Christ, you are a new person, being renewed through God's grace. Why not celebrate this with the New Year?
