One child is dead and three others remain in critical condition following a one-car accident Monday on Highway 13 just north of Washburn.

The driver of a south bound vehicle lost control and overturned coming to rest in a field on the east side of Highway 13, according to a Bayfield County Sheriff's Department news release.

The driver, 23-year-old Chelsea Nicole Cadotte of Bayfield, sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

None of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and four children were ejected from the vehicle.

A 2-year-old, Mariah Gordan of Bayfield, died of injuries sustained in the accident, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol. Three others -- Erica Gonzalez, 15, of Bayfield; Carter Gordon, 6, of Washburn; and Myley Gordon, 4, of Washburn -- remain in Duluth hospitals with life-threatening.

All five passengers were transported to Memorial Medical Center by ambulances from Washburn, Bayfield and Ashland. The children were flown to Duluth hospitals in critical condition.

Cadotte was transported by ground ambulance to a Duluth hospital.

The Wisconsin State Patrol and Bayfield County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
