The Northwestern High School football team improved to 2-0 with a 49-0 win over The Hayward Hurricanes Friday, Aug. 30, at Gordon L. Nelson Field in Maple.
Colin Trautt scored from 7 yards on the Tigers’ third play of the game then made it 35-0 on a 10-yard TD pass from Jake Brill with 27 seconds left in the second quarter.
Inbetween, Brill threw an 11-yard TD pass to Dayne Evanson, and Bryson Mazur, Brennan Werner and Isaac Nichols had TD runs.
Harrison Nelson finished the scoring with a 12-yard run in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers didn’t waste any time as they scored the first three times they had the ball.
After Trautt scored on the third-play of the game, Mazur ran in from 64 yards on the second play of the next drive, and Werner’s 4-yard TD run made it 21-0 with 9:31 left in the second quarter.
A Jagar Stillson interception, his second of the season, set up Evanson’s 11-yard touchdown pass from Brill. Nichols’ extra-point kick went wilde left, making the score 27-0.
The Tigers took a 35-0 lead into halftime on Trautt’s 10-yard TD pass from Brill with 27 seconds left on the clock. Nichols made up for his miss after the previous score by running for the two-point conversion.
The Tigers play at Ladysmith at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.
