Duluth and Superior residents who use an antenna to access free, over-the air television will need to rescan their TV to continue to receive local programming and emergency alerts.

The National Association of Broadcasters issued a news release with steps on how to rescan a TV. Using the TV remote, select "scan" or "autotune" from the TV or converter box control menu to start the process. The TV will then do the rest in a just a few minutes. More information is available at TVAnswers.org.

TV rescans need to occur when stations in the area change frequency, said Lori Guyton with TV Answers, which is part of the National Association of Broadcasters. Users will find that they have more channels available after they do a rescan. The channel numbers don't change.

Since September 2018, many over-the-air TV channels in the U.S. have been changing frequencies to help free up airwaves for high-speed wireless services. That will continue through July 3.
