The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department hosts Brazilian percussionist Gilmar Goulart for its University Recital Series at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Webb Recital Hall.
"His main instrument is the marimba and he is known for blending solo marimba playing with interesting staging and drama," said Brett Jones, professor of percussion and world music at UWS, who will perform with Goulart for two pieces.
As the head of the percussion department at the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil, Goulart holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder.
He has presented many Brazilian premieres and first recordings of composers for percussion. As a clinician and guest lecturer, he has taught courses and seminars in Brazil and Argentina, and has been invited as a guest member in search committees and graduate examinations in Brazilian universities.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. The Webb Recital Hall is located in the Holden Fine Arts Center, 1805 Catlin Ave. For information, call 715-394-8115 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
