Vouchers available to seniors

Farmers' Market Vouchers will be available at Senior Connections, located at 1805 N. 16th Street, Superior. The Agency has received 185 vouchers to distribute to Douglas County residents who are eligible to receive these vouchers.

Farmers' Market Vouchers will be available at Senior Connections, located at 1805 N. 16th Street, Superior. The Agency has received 185 vouchers to distribute to Douglas County residents who are eligible to receive these vouchers.

Distribution of the vouchers began Tuesday. They are available on a first-come first-serve basis. You must be there in person in order to apply for and receive your $25 in vouchers. Vouchers are limited to $25 per family.

To be eligible for this program, you must be a resident of Douglas County and 60 years of age or older; if Native American you must be 55 years of age or older. Also you must fall under the income guidelines of $20,036 for a one person household, or $26,955 for a two person household. The vouchers can be used for fruit, vegetables and herbs at the Farmers' Markets.

Locally there are two locations for the Farmers Market. Barker's Island Farmers Market, located at Hwy 2/53 and Marina Drive (next to the SS Meteor), will be open on every Saturday from June 13 through Oct. 31, from 8 a.m. to noon. The Winter Street Depot will be open every Wednesday from June 17 through Oct. 28, from 1-5 p.m.
