Lake Nebagamon's holiday season includes a chance for the community to celebrate together and opportunities to brighten the season for local youth and members of the military serving overseas.
For more than 50 years, the Nebagamon Community Association has welcomed the holiday season with the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and Program, and this year's holiday event will include something new. A live nativity scene is planned as a special climax to the evening's festivities.
This year's program begins at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Nebagamon Auditorium, 11506 E. Waterfront Drive. Area churches, schools, organizations and individuals are invited to participate in the program, according Rick Baga, president of the NCA.
"The family-oriented program will feature soloists and groups presenting holiday musical numbers and/or readings. We welcome any individuals and/or groups who would like to be part of the program," he said.
Once again, the NCA is planning time before the program begins for children who would like to create their own holiday decorations. Materials are provided by the NCA starting at 5:30 p.m. Children can place their decorations on the community tree or they may take them home for their own Christmas trees.

The indoor program ends with the arrival of Santa Claus and the serving of holiday cookies and beverages. A highlight of the evening is the refreshments. Those who attend this holiday event are asked to bring a plate of their favorite holiday cookies to share after the program.
"We are adding a special program feature to this year's event," Baga said. "After our indoor program, we will have a live outdoor nativity scene across the street from the Auditorium. We do need help with this new project. We hope people will be in the choir, bring live animals, help build the nativity scene, be an actor." Anyone interested in participating in the Nativity Scene is asked to contact Baga at 715-817-0611, or Swan Dawson at the Village Office, 715-374-3101.
In conjunction with the Tree Lighting, the NCA begins collecting items to send to local men and women in the Armed Services. A list of needed items can be accessed on the NCA website: www.lakenebagamonwi.com .
The Kids in Nebagamon organization will be collecting canned and packaged food to be distributed to area families in need. Each year KIN provides family food baskets, some necessities and some special Christmas gifts to children in need in the Maple/Northwestern School District. Area schools and churches provide the names of the children and groups in the towns and villages in the district all help to meet their needs. Individuals, churches and organizations that would like to help make Christmas merry for these kids should contact Kay Coletta, ccoletta@centurytel.net or 715-374-2283
after 11 a.m. any day.
