The Superior Fire Department will be taking to the streets Tuesday, July 30, through Thursday, Aug. 1, with boots in hand to help spread awareness and raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). They will be collecting donations from 1-6 p.m. at Super One Foods stores at 1515 Oakes Ave. and 2202 E. Second St. as well as Walmart, 3705 Tower Ave.
In the last five years, members of Superior Firefighters Local 74 have volunteered many hours and have raised over $77,000 for kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, Lou Gehrig's disease and related muscle-debilitating diseases.
Past contributions helped fund groundbreaking research and programs such as support groups and care centers, including a multidisciplinary MDA Care Center at Essentia in Duluth, as well as the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and Gillette Children’s Specialty in St Paul.
Funds raised also helped send more than 160 local kids to a week-long MDA summer camp at Camp Courage, in Maple Lake,. Minn., all at no cost to their families.
