Two Northland teachers were honored April 28 by the University of Wisconsin-Superior's Teacher Education Department for their dedication to providing guidance and experience to future educators.

Receiving Rockwell Awards from the university's Teacher Education Department were Dawn Theelke, a second-grade teacher at Cooper Elementary School in Superior and Deb Tempestra, a fourth-grade teacher at Cumberland Elementary School.

Theelke was nominated by student teacher Holly Elnes. Tempestra was nominated by Jennifer Marker, a student teacher completing her degree through UWS' Distance Learning program.

The Rockwell Awards recognize educators who have demonstrated outstanding dedication, enthusiasm and skill in working with UWS student teachers and teaching interns. Recipients are nominated by student teachers who worked in their classrooms or by UWS faculty. Each award is accompanied by $500.

The awards were presented at the annual Teacher Education Department Recognition Reception held at UWS.
