SHS musicians earn high scores at state

Superior High School musicians earned high scores at the State Solo//Ensemble festival in Eau Claire May 1. The ratings go from 1 (best score) to 5 and are non competitive -- they are based on a standard rubric.

Superior High School musicians earned high scores at the State Solo//Ensemble festival in Eau Claire May 1. The ratings go from 1 (best score) to 5 and are non competitive -- they are based on a standard rubric.

Soloists receiving a 2 included Anna Anklam (musical theater), Troy Benson (baritone), Brittney Carroll (tenor sax), Taylor Christner (soprano), Faydra Lagro (soprano), Libby Ledin (piano), Olivia Lindberg (soprano), Brittany MacDonnel (alto), Megan Minor (viola), Casey Rasmussen (clarinet), Carrie Slick (violin) and Nokomis Tribbey (violin).

Soloists receiving a 1 included Dylan Holck (baritone), Emily Kasparek (flute), Libby Ledin (violin), Laura Schwartz (soprano), Carrie Slick (viola) and Jake Swanson (alto sax).

Ensembles receiving a 1 included Madrigal (Spartan Singers), Vikram Gill and Laura Montano (sax duet), Megan Minor and Logan Amys (viola duet), the String Septet and Nokomis Tribbey and Yer Vang (violin duet).

In addition, Emily Kasparek received an "Exemplary Soloist" award. She was recognized as one of the outstanding soloists in the entire festival. Each year adjudicators recognize just about 450 out of more than 8,000 solo entries in 10 different state festival sites statewide. She is under consideration to be one of 20 soloists at the Exemplary Soloist recital next October at the annual WMEA conference in Madison.
