As part of September's Hunger Action Month, Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank recognized key contributors to its hunger-relief work.
Essentia Health received honors with the Financial Donor of the Year Award after contributing more than $302,000 in the past 15 years to support our hunger-relief work in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. In addition, they've donated over 316,000 pounds of food as well as countless hours of volunteer service. In total, Essentia Health's contributions have ensured 1.8 million meals for Northland residents in need.
Upper Lakes Food was recognized with the Food Donor of the Year Award. Upper Lakes Foods has donated more than 1.3 million pounds of food, or the equivalent of 1 million meals, in the past 15 years to the Northland residents. In addition, they contribute more than $5,000 annually for the sponsorship of our truck and volunteer.
Dave Beran received the Honorary Gene Boysen Volunteer of the Year Award for contributing more than 165 hours to our Hermantown Area Food Shelf and other food bank programs in the last year. In addition, he donates fresh produce from his garden, builds items needed for food bank's operation and offers his expertise, experience and light-hearted friendship.
Dawn Erickson was honored with the Michael E. Miner Board Leadership Award as a natural leader on the board of directors. She assumes the role of Board vice chairperson, Governance Committee chairperson and is an active part of the Executive Committee offering her personnel and human resource expertise. She serves with energy and passion.
Quad Cities Food Shelf received the Agency Partner of the Year Award. Quad Cities Food Shelf in Gilbert, Minn., serves more than 1,400 people per month and provides more than 300,000 meals to Iron Range residents in need. Over their 35-plus year history they've evolved from simply providing service to an organization that strives to create a pleasant experience for their program participants.
Award winners were recognized throughout the month of September. Award winners received a photo frame and event photo as part of their recognition.
Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank is the region's only food bank and rescuer of nationally and regionally donated food for 180 nonprofit programs.
