In 2008, 160 Retired Senior Volunteer Program participants donated 28,319 hours to 40 nonprofit and public service agencies in Superior and Douglas County.

Their gift of time, talent and energy served 58,500 children and adults by providing a wide range of support and saved area organizations $327,698 by assisting these sites to continue services or extend outreach. Now that's an efficient way to lend a helping hand.

Celebrating 36 years of serving the Douglas County community through volunteerism, RSVP recently recognized volunteers' efforts during a special luncheon with Mayor Dave Ross, Douglas County Board Chairman Doug Finn and others, sponsored by National Bank of Commerce and Catholic Charities Bureau.

Volunteers received awards for the number of years of volunteer service and for number of hours donated.

Alice Paine and Christine Kansy received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, signed by the President of the United States, for giving more than 4,000 volunteer hours.
