St. Louis County seeks public input on passenger rail facility plan
St. Louis County begins a planning study in preparation for intercity passenger rail service between Duluth and Minneapolis. The study gets underway on with a public open house in the St. Louis County Union Depot Great Hall from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The open house provides the community an opportunity to learn more about the planning study and provide input on important questions about accommodating passenger facilities at the Depot and capturing development potential in the surrounding area.
The planning study consists of three components. A facility plan will provide design recommendations for creating a vibrant passenger terminal at the Depot. An area master plan will provide a guide for capturing new development opportunities presented by the new passenger rail service. An economic analysis will document current and potential future market conditions. It is expected to be completed by fall 2009.
The consultant team of Miller Dunwiddie Architecture will facilitate the open house and public input process. For more information, contact St. Louis County Planning and Development at (218) 725-5000. Information is also available at www.duluthuniondepot.org .
