Bethel Lutheran Church celebrates its 125th anniversary in South Superior Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. worship service followed by a potluck dinner.

The anniversary committee will provide cake, hot beef or pulled pork sandwiches, and beverages, with congregation members supplying the rest. Throughout the summer, Bethel Lutheran Church members have been collecting pictures, sharing memories, creating banners and printing T-shirts to celebrate its rich history. All of these will be on display for Sunday's event.

The church was organized Oct. 24, 1891. In its early days, the Bethel congregation worshiped at the Lake City Boarding house in what is now Webster Park. For another seven years, they met at four other rented buildings before finding a home at 5821 John Ave. The building has been raised up, remodeled and added on to; it's received a new floor and a lift over the last 118 years.
