SUPERIOR — So its 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 8, and my oldest son returned after attending a birthday party at the trampoline park in Duluth. What's a parent's normal idea of an activity to do at that time of night?
Well if you guessed “let's head over to the North End of Superior,” you’d be odd — and correct.
I loaded up my oldest in the car to check out how Duluth’s Fourth Fest fireworks would look from Superior’s North End.
I really had no idea how visible the fireworks would be. Typically when shooting fireworks you really want to know that you’ll have a good view, but since this wasn’t an assignment, I figured it was worth the risk. We pulled up on the road near CHS, and I set up a tripod to hopefully get a few shots.
Fireworks can be a little tricky to capture, and really the key to a good fireworks shot is getting something else in the frame with the fireworks. As the first few bursts lit up the sky, I moved my setup over a little and kept CHS in the frame. Then I zoomed in more on the Blatnik Bridge as multicolored explosions illuminated the sky.

Overall I was pretty happy finding a hidden little gem of a spot on this side of the bridge, for a Fourth Fest I was shooting on July 8.
