On Jan. 27, the Salvation Army honored all of its bell ringers, along with Corp and Thrift Store volunteers, with dinner and awards.
Capts. Jasen and Kimberly Elcombe wanted to thank all of them for all of their help during the holiday season and throughout the year. It is because of the generosity of volunteers that the Salvation Army is able to give back to the community.
Some local business and organizations competed against each other this year to see who could bring in the most money during six hours of bell ringing. The winners in their respective categories were Superior Savings Bank, North Bay Church, 7 West Restaurant, Tiger Den 3221 and the Optimist Club.
The captains are hopeful that more will sign up to compete next year. They would even like to see families compete against one another.
Jason Larsen was the 2018 Volunteer Bell Ringer of the Year with 109 hours of volunteer bell ringing. He was also the winner in 2017 with 169 hours.
Mike Brett and Judy Cordts were awarded as outstanding volunteers at the Salvation Army Thrift Store.
