A season of giving

Janet Ledin

Senior Connections nutrition coordinator

With the holiday season, we often look back at the year, reflect on our accomplishments and challenges, and look ahead to a fresh start in the New Year. Eating healthy during the holidays can be challenging, especially with the choice of a cornucopia of foods.

However, you do not need to give up your favorite holiday dishes to maintain your weight.

This holiday season concentrate on socializing, making new acquaintances and having fun. Spend time with relatives or catching up with old friends. Think about what you’re celebrating, not just about the food.

Make sure you add some physical activity each day along with consuming a healthful diet. Enjoy the holidays with family and friends.

During this holiday season we are asking for donations to the Home-Delivered Meal Program to ensure seniors 60 and older in need of a hot meal receive one. As little as $20 can deliver a senior five hot, nutritious meals. At this time of the year, we can be thankful for what we have and share our good fortune by giving back to the seniors in our community. Please consider making a donation.

Checks payable to Senior Connections (indicate for senior meals) can be mailed or dropped off at 1805 N. 16thSt. Superior, WI 54880. For information, call Janet at 715-394-3611.

Gift certificates also are available.

Happy and safe holiday wishes to you all.
