The University of Wisconsin-Superior athletic department has announced its schedule for the Fourth Annual Week of Giving Dec. 8-15.
“Week of Giving is one of the times on our athletics calendar that everyone in our department looks forward to each year,” UWS Athletics Director Nick Bursik said. “Our Student Athlete Advisory Committee has really taken ownership of the entire week, planning the events and always wanting to add new things, and as an administrator, it’s exciting for me to watch them want to do more each year to help people in the community.”
During the noon hour Monday, Dec. 9, Yellowjacket student-athletes will be wrapping gifts for families that have placed requests on the UWS Giving Tree.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10, Yellowjacket student-athletes will spend 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. ringing bells for the Salvation Army at Super One in Superior’s East End. Last year, Yellowjacket Athletics received an award from the Salvation Army for its dedication to the bell-ringing effort.
The Caroling for Cans food drive is back for another year with Yellowjacket student-athletes going door-to-door in Superior from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, to collect donations benefiting the food shelf at St. Vincent de Paul.
New this year is the free Yellowjacket Athletics Community Holiday Party. From noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, student-athletes will be available at both Wessman Arena and the Marcovich Wellness Center to play games and do holiday crafts. There will also be an apparel sale to fill last-minute gift needs.
During all home games during the Week of Giving, the Yellowjackets will be collecting toys to benefit the Superior Fire Department’s Toys for Tots toy drive. The toys will be donated the week after the event.
