This holiday season, just like every year, the sound of the Salvation Army Bells will be heard. This year, however, they may be ringing extra loud.
Some bell ringers will be hoping their business will win bragging rights as the top business in their category. The Salvation Army will be asking businesses to step up and ring, and compete against one another. Whoever brings in the most money during those hours will be crowned champion of their category. Categories may include small business, banks, restaurants, salons, waterfront and more.
Many have already said yes.
But it isn't just local businesses that will be competing. There are athletic and academic teams as well. The University of Wisconsin-Superior has already committed its athletic teams. Service clubs and organizations will also be involved.
The competition aims to bring the community together to help those in need. The money from the kettles is a huge part of the Salvation Army's ability to help the community.
Several board members are reaching out to some businesses; others will receive letters. If you haven't been contacted and wish to participate, email Jan Jago at email@example.com.
Winners will be awarded at the banquet in January.
