Five local piano students competed in the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association Badger competition May 19 at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Teachers represented from the Superior Music Teachers Association were Alex Sandor and Hector Landa.
Zachary Grohn was runner-up for grade 12. Benjamin Hintzman was runner-up for grade 10. Natalie Sandor and Selah Swanson, both in eighth grade, were awarded honorable mention for their age group. Emma Jones also participated.
The students earned the right to compete after advancing from the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association district auditions in Superior, where they each performed three memorized compositions and completed a written music theory exam.
After participating in the state competition Hintzman earned his 275-point bar, Grohn earned his 200-point plaque and Jones earned her 22-point plaque.
