In response to Governor Walker's plan to force thousands of seniors to leave SeniorCare, Sen. Bob Jauch, D-Poplar, hosts two Listening Sessions focused on senior issues and the state budget Saturday.
He'll be at the Ashland Senior Center from 9-11 a.m. and at the Spooner Ag Research Station from 2-4 p.m.
"The Governor's budget proposal has raised serious questions about Walker's commitment to our responsibility to ensure that Wisconsin's seniors have the dignity and financial independence in retirement they deserve," said Jauch. "This listening session will give us a chance to have an open discussion about what the proposed changes will mean to seniors and about what can be done to save programs like SeniorCare."
Jauch also notes that the Governor's budget proposal includes deep cuts to a number of programs that help seniors, including public transit and the Homestead Tax Credit Program, which provides tax breaks to low income homeowners. About 45% of those receiving the credit are over the age of 55.
"This budget proposal hits those who have the least the hardest, and that has thousands of seniors worried about whether or not the services and programs they count on everyday will still be available in the future," added Jauch. 'That's why this session, and the others we are holding in the area, is so important."
