The Iron River Public Library announces the kickoff of its 2009 Summer Reading Program. This summer, kids will travel the world learning about the geography and cultures of each continent as they read, attend fun programs and play games to win prizes.
The program is open to kids ages 4-12. Just bring your child to the library to sign up, and he/she will receive a Book a Trip book bag and reading chart. Children will also choose their own mode of transportation for the journey around the world. The markers, on the library's bulletin board, move as children read more books.
Kids are assigned to one of three age categories (4-6, 7-9, 10-12). After they have read 10 books, they will be able to move their marker to the first continent. As they read more books, they will travel to each of six continents, getting different prizes.
Schedule events include:
Saturday: Game day at the library from noon to 2 p.m. Snacks provided.
