Come to Superior Public Library and enter our Elf on the Library Shelf contest. Jingles the Library Elf will be hiding in a different spot in the Youth Services area every day. Stop by the library, find the elf and submit your answer at the Youth Services desk to be entered into a prize drawing. The winner will receive an Elf Pets book and plush toy. The contest ends Dec. 18.
Everyone’s favorite amateur astronomer and writer Bob King, also known as Astro Bob, will come to the library Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. to talk about the weird and wonderful things to watch for during next week’s full moon and Geminid meteor shower. He’ll also sell and sign copies of his latest book, “Urban Legends from Space.” This program is free and open to the public. The Friends of the Library will provide refreshments.
Come to the library and enjoy free movies during December. We’ll be showing “The Peanut Butter Falcon” on Dec. 11. This movie is rated PG-13 and tells the story of Zak, a young man with Down syndrome, who runs away from his group home to follow his dream of becoming a professional wrestler.
On Dec. 16, we’ll show “Blinded by the Light” (PG-13), the true story of Javed, a Pakistani teenager growing up in England in 1987 who discovers the music of Bruce Springsteen. Both movies start at 6 p.m.
Our last Tuesday Storytime of the year will be held Dec. 10 at 10:30 a.m. Join us Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m. for our monthly Pajama Storytime and enjoy stories, crafts and fun in your pajamas.
Did you know the library offers a book club especially for kids? Our Bookworms Book Club meets for book discussion, an activity and snack once a month. For December, pick up a copy of “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” at the Youth Services desk and read it before the group meets on Dec. 13 at 4:15 p.m.
Join us at the library on Dec. 17 at 3:30 p.m. for our monthly Crafternoon for kids. We’ll be making ornaments. No registration is required and all supplies will be provided.
Looking to relieve stress during the holiday season? Our free yoga class is perfect for you. Join us Dec. 21 at 10:30 a.m. for an all-abilities yoga class led by staff from the Superior YMCA. Bring a mat if you have one. This class is intended for ages 12 and up. If you’d like to make a monetary donation for the class, all proceeds will be used for future library programs.
