Twin Ports Mustang & Ford Club to celebrate car's 55th birthday
The Twin Ports Mustang & Ford Club will celebrate the Mustang’s 55th birthday Wednesday, April 17, at Benna Ford in Superior from 5:30-7 p.m. Members of the club invite all Mustang owners to join them to show their Mustang and for Mustang enthusiast to come see the Mustangs.
Production of the Mustang began in 1964 in Dearborn, Michigan. Then, on April 17, 1964, Henry Ford II introduced the Mustang at the World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. It also made its debut in Ford showrooms across America on the same day. Nearly 22,000 Mustangs were quickly bought.
This year is also the 50th birthday of the Mach 1, which is a performance option of the Ford Mustang. It was originally introduced by Ford in August 1968 as a package for the 1969 model year. The Mach 1 title was on performance-oriented Mustangs until its original retirement in 1978. The Mach 1 package was brought back in 2003 and 2004.
