Free ski lessons offered in Brule
Free beginning and intermediate cross-country ski lessons for both children and adults, in both the classic and skate styles, will be offered at the After-Hours Ski Trail in the Brule River State Forest on Saturday Feb. 2. Lessons begin on the trailhead at noon, and the group will be ready to ski by 12:30 p.m.
Rental skis, boots and poles will be provided for those pre-registering for the equipment by 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31. Children 12 and under pay just $5 and adults $15 for ski rental. A name, age and phone number is needed to reserve equipment, as well as the renter’s approximate height, weight and shoe size and the type of skiing they intend to try -- ‘skate’ or ‘classic’ style.
Everyone is welcome. Children must be registered by a parent or guardian, and children 12 and under should be accompanied by an adult. Youth groups, such as scouts and 4-H, may participate by pre-registering. No memberships or trail passes are required.
The ski lessons are sponsored by the Brule Valley Ski Club, Brule River State Forest and the Brule Lions. The After Hours trailhead and parking lot are just south of US Highway 2 on After Hours Road, which is the first road west of the Brule River.
