The fourth annual South End Days kicks off Friday, July 19, with a chance for redemption during the Guns-N-Hoses Softball Game at 58th Street ballfield.
After two years of back-to-back softball victories, the Superior Fire Department lost the 2018 game to the Superior Police Department 1-10.
“We lost badly last year; we’re looking to come back,” Fire Capt. Lindzi Campbell said.
With a number of new hires on both sides of the field, spectators can expect a wild card element to the game this year.
Despite the friendly rivalry, the Guns-N-Hoses games give members of both departments a chance to spend some time together in a non-emergency environment.
“It’s really nice to see them not on calls, to be able to hang out socially and visit, get to know them better,” Campbell said.
In fact, the two teams plan to practice together Wednesday, July 17, in Billings Park.
The free ball game is open to the community, and organizers hope to pack the stands.
“It’s fun; it’s a community event. We love participating,” Campbell said. “We’re all so busy with work and family that we don’t make enough time to hang out together.
