Superior Public Library’s summer reading program for kids and teens celebrates “A Universe of Stories,” and if you come to the library June 25, you can touch an actual rock that came from outer space. At “Space Rocks & Telescopes” with Bob King, we’ll pass around real meteorites, learn how a telescope works and look at the sun through a safe solar filter (weather permitting). This free program starts at 2 p.m.
Growing old gracefully is possible. Come to the library Thursday, June 27, at 12:30 p.m. for an educational program presented by the Alzheimer’s Association and learn about the latest research in diet an nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. You’ll learn hands-on tools to help you incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging. This program is free and open to all.
Kids of all ages can come to the library and get crafty during July, starting July 2 at 2 p.m. Come to a free craft program with Margo Herbert and make a star bracelet. And make sure to check out our monthly “Crafternoon” program on July 16 from 3-4:30 p.m. We’ll be making moon crafts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo launch.
Have you ever considered becoming a foster parent? Come to the library July 8 at 5:30 p.m. for a free program about foster parenting in Douglas County. Foster Care Coordinator Brittany Johnson will answer your questions about the foster care program in Douglas County, plus you’ll have the opportunity to talk to current foster parents and hear their stories and experiences. This event is free and open to the public.
The Duluth Monarch Buddies will offer a free kid’s program at the library July 9 at 2 p.m. Come and learn about all 4 stages of the monarch as it develops from an egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and finally a butterfly. Learn why milkweed is so important to monarchs, and take home some free milkweed seeds and help the monarchs in your own neighborhood.
The library will offer free movies throughout the month of July. Join us July 1 for “Captain Marvel” (PG-13) starring Brie Larson. On July 10 we’ll be showing “The Public” (PG-13) starring Emilio Estevez. And on July 15, enjoy a free showing of “The Mustang” (R) starring Bruce Dern. Movies start at 6 p.m. and light snacks are available.
