Students at Northern Lights Elementary will be treated to a demonstration of woodwind instruments.
University of Wisconsin-Superior Professor Greg Kehl Moore is planning to visit the music room on seven different occasions to answer student questions and to play for groups of classes. Moore will bring his instruments from UWS where he is the Jazz Program Director, teacher of applied saxophone and teacher of classes in World Music.
Most elementary students are familiar with Moore. Last year, the Greg Moore Trio from UWS performed for a PBIS performed for a PBIS reward assembly, as well as in the music room for smaller groups. This year, his first appearance in the music room will target three kindergarten classes, one of which includes his son Truman.
During a subsequent visit with additional three or four classes, his audience will include his daughter, Tabitha, a fourth grade student at Northern Lights.
Moore is active as a composer, performer and scholar. His compositions were performed at the prestigious World Saxophone Congress in 2003 and by notable jazz ensembles like the University of Texas Jazz Orchestra. Dr. Moore's solo work is featured on recordings by these two organizations, as well. In the Twin Ports, Dr. Moore performs regularly with the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra and the Big Time Jazz Orchestra. He also has presented public lectures on the history of jazz and is the co-author of a 1997 Contemporary Music Review article on women jazz composers.
