Saturday, March 5

Superior: Douglas County Traders Village hosts its first event of the year from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Head of the Lakes Fairgrounds. Crafters, pickers and junkers will be on hand. There will also be food vendors. For more information, see the event listing on Facebook.

Virtual: Lake Superior Writers is hosting a virtual Writers’ Café from 9:30-11 a.m. The virtual meet-up with fellow writers will be hosted by long-time LSW member Gail Trowbridge. The March topic is :Writing advice and feedback: The good, the bad and the confusing." This event is free to LSW members and the public, but registration is required. Email writers@lakesuperiorwriters.org by March 2 to receive an email with a Zoom link before the event.

Superior: The Superior Douglas County YMCA hosts a free drive-thru food distribution event from 10 a.m. to noon in its south entrance driveway. The YMCA has partnered with Every Meal to provide free 4-5 lb. food bags to those in need. Four varieties are available to anyone in need.

Superior: The Superior Public Library hosts its weekly Lego Club from 4-6 p.m. The event is free, but participants are asked to wear a mask.

Superior: The Superior Public Library hosts its weekly story time for children from 10:30-11 a.m.

River Talks: Bawa’iganaakoog (Wild Rice Harvesting Sticks): 6:30-8 p.m. Room 203, University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjacket Union, 1605 Catlin Ave., Superior. Part of the St. Louis River Summit. Marne Kaeske, with the 1854 Treaty Authority, will present about constructing wild rice knocking sticks. Get prepared to hit the rice bed during Manoomike-giizis (the wild ricing moon). Superior: Lake Superior Writers will host Superior Shares, a virtual open mic from 6-7 p.m. The event is free and open to members and nonmembers. If you wish to read, 10 five-minute reading slots are available. Participants will be notified ahead of time if they've been selected to read. Graphic content is prohibited. Virtual: Lake Superior Writers hosts "It’s Murder, Dontcha Know!" from 9-11 a.m. During this virtual workshop about how to write a mystery, mystery writer Jeanne Cooney will discuss the types of mysteries and the mechanics of writing them. She will review the steps commonly followed in mysteries: establishing the protagonist’s wishes, hooking the reader, scattering clues and tying up loose ends.
