Superior: The Gitchigumi Scouts is one of the organizations hosting a peaceful protest to bring awareness to the Enbridge Line 3 pipeline replacement project. The event will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the Douglas County Government Center.

Friday, Jan. 8

Superior: Learn the art of “Tracking on Snowshoes" with the Lake Superior Estuarine Research Reserve 1-3 p.m. in the Superior Municipal Forest. The educational event is for students grade 6-8; register at www.lakesuperiorreserve.org .

Monday, Jan. 11

Superior: The Small Business Development Center at UW-Superior will host a free seminar titled “First steps to starting a food product business” from 6-8 p.m. The virtual event will feature chef Arlene Coco, a long-time food business owner and culinary innovation strategist. Coco will help participants understand how to start a business before they start their journeys, including establishing a niche and conducting market research to ensure a competitive advantage; writing a business plan; learning the responsibilities and regulatory requirements of the product they produce; and recordkeeping. Superior: The Superior Public Library’s Bookworms Book Club for kids will meet virtually at 2 p.m. They will discuss “Matilda” by Roald Dahl. Anyone interested in participating should email wiisanenk@superiorlibrary.org to register and receive login information. Copies of the book can be requested from the library by calling 715-394-8860.

Superior: The Small Business Development Center at UW-Superior will host a free seminar titled “First steps to starting a business” from 6-8 p.m. The virtual event will feature information on developing a lean or visual business plan, licensing and taxing, market research and branding. Participants will receive a variety of materials to help start their business in addition to being introduced to several resources. There is no cost to participate.
