Library Happenings: Adventure awaits at all Superior Library locations
Offerings in August go from slimy to cut-throat jungle adventures.
SUPERIOR — Superior Public Library is hiring.
We’re looking for two part-time library technicians to help patrons locate and check-out materials, place holds, use the computers and more. Superior Public Library is a great place to work, and we’d love to have you on our team. Applications are due Aug. 14. Apply online at the city of Superior website.
Things are going to get slimy at our Solon Springs branch. Bring the kids to the Joan Salmen Memorial Library in Solon Springs on Thursday, Aug. 11, at 10:30 a.m. to make slime. All supplies provided and no registration required.
Lego Club is the coolest club in town. Join us Monday, Aug. 15, at the Imogene McGrath Memorial Library in Lake Nebagamon at 10:30 a.m. and build something awesome out of Legos. Want more Legos? Lego Club also meets every Monday 4-6 p.m. at Superior Public Library.
Are you looking for your dream job? Do you need help finding the job that’s right for you? Get help at the library. Helpful staff from the Wisconsin Job Center visits the library on the third Wednesday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to offer assistance with job applications, job searches, and even filing for unemployment benefits. Stop by Aug. 17 and get help with your job search.
Join us Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. for a discussion of "The Fairy Tale Detectives," the first book in the Sisters Grimm series by Michael Buckley about two orphaned sisters sent to live with their grandmother who discover a family secret: they are descendants of the famous Brothers Grimm. You’ll love the fractured fairy tales and magical mysteries in this book. Check out a copy at the library or download the e-book instantly from Hoopla and join us for discussion.
On Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. join Chelsea Thompson, dementia care specialist with the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Douglas County, for a very special “Capturing the Memories” storytime. We’ll make a memory book craft, have a snack, and read "Lucy and Grandpa: A Story about Love and Dementia." Each child will receive a free copy of Lucy and Grandpa. Please RSVP at 715-395-1234.
Come to the library on Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. for a free showing of the new comedy “The Lost City." Sandra Bullock stars as a reclusive romance novelist on a book tour with her cover model who gets swept up in a kidnapping attempt that lands them both in a cut-throat jungle adventure. This movie is rated PG-13 and closed-captioning will be enabled.
There’s still plenty of time for your child or teen to participate in our summer reading program. Track your progress online using Beanstack or get a paper form at the library. Finishers get a prize bag filled with goodies, a free book, and an entry into our grand prize drawing. Make sure to finish the summer reading program by Aug. 31.
Mark your calendars for the next Friends of the Library Book Sale. The sale will be held Sept. 16-17 at the library. If you have items you’d like to donate for the sale, the Friends of the Library accept donations on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11 a.m.
