Discover lost railroad communities

The Old-Brule Heritage Society invites the public to join them for a potluck and trip to the past, beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Maple Town Hall.

Railroad veteran Brian Paulson presents a free program on the northern Douglas County communities lost to time along the corridors of the abandoned Northern Pacific and Duluth South Shore & Atlantic railways. The tracks once joined stations in Superior and Ashland. Paulson's gave a talk last year on Douglas County ghost towns.

The evening kicks off with a pot-luck lunch, followed by the program at about 6 p.m. Afterward the group will hold a short business session. A voluntary gift exchange will cap off the night with items marked M, F or E.

Free will donation buckets will be out, and the historical society will have books, memorabilia and clothing items for sale. Money raised supports the group's historical work at the Davidson Windmill site in Lakeside and the new Monticello School Museum & Archives facility in Maple.
