Live Limitless, a sister nutrition club to Tower Fit, is poised to open next month in the former People’s Drug Store building at 1124 Belknap St.
The business is owned by Mackenzie Dahlin, a University of Wisconsin-Superior graduate who has been a health coach with Tower Fit for the past four years. She said the spot is a perfect fit for the business, being so close to the university and the Government Center. Live Limitless will offer protein shakes, meal-replacement shakes, energizing teas, protein bars and free wellness profiles to customers. Dahlin said she expects to open the shop with two employees and hire up to six more in the coming months.
In the summer of 2019, Dahlin worked with the City of Superior as its health and wellness intern. The business offers an extension of that.
“It’s going to be a great opportunity to continue to impact the community,” she said.
The nutrition club will fill half of the former drug store. Owners Holly and Robert Larson with Larson Investments LLC made the move to split the shop space into two separate 1,500-square-foot areas. Most renters were looking for a smaller footprint, Holly Larson said.
The restructuring is a step back into the past. When it opened on May 17, 1924, the building had two storefronts: the drug store and a soda fountain with its own entrance. The second space now has its own address, 1122 Belknap St.
People’s Drug Store closed its doors in October 2016. Larson Investments purchased the building in July, and work has been ongoing to remodel the space, including the four apartments on the upper floor. A parking lot area was added along the alley behind the building.
“We bought it as is, so we literally had to move all the People’s Drug Store out,” Holly Larson said. “The basement was packed almost to the ceiling with decorations and old pill bottles.”
One feature didn’t need any work. Holly Larson said the hand-laid floor tiles in the store, each the size of a silver dollar, were in perfect condition and are slated for a thorough cleaning Jan. 30.
Dahlin said she’ll get the keys to her space, the storefront closest to Baxter Avenue, on Feb. 1 and hopes to open Live Limitless by the end of the month. Holly Larson said she was happy to have the nutrition club move in.
“I’m excited because I go to those a lot,” she said.
The other space has yet to be rented.
