A new CBD shop opened July 13 in Superior.

A branch of the CBD American Shaman franchise, the business is located next door to Dunkin’ Donuts at 3110 Tower Ave., Suite 1B.

Store manager Luke Lindstrom said the area, right on Tower Avenue near the hospital, is a good fit for the business. He also appreciated the neighboring businesses.

“Being connected to Dunkin’ Donuts is awesome, just the foot traffic,” he said.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is derived from hemp, a relative of the marijuana plant without the psychoactive properties. The passage of the 2018 Farm Bill allowed hemp products that contain less than 0.3% of THC, the ingredient in marijuana that produces a “high,” to be sold.

“I have a lot of people ask me, ‘Is this legal?’” Lindstrom said. “Yes. It’s legal, it’s safe.”

And, he said, many people have found CBD to be beneficial.

Lindstrom said the store, one of 300 American Shaman franchises nationwide, is very transparent. Free samples are offered, as well as a money-back guarantee. It offers a wide variety of products for people and pets.

Customers must be at least 18 years old, Lindstrom said.

According to CBD American Shaman, based in Kansas City, Missouri, the business uses GMO-free hemp grown in the U.S. One thing that sets it apart from other local stores, Lindstrom said, is the use of nanotechnology to increase CBD absorption.

The Superior franchise is owned by Duluth natives Andy Hromatka and Kevin Lindstrom, Luke’s uncle, under the business name Superior Wellness LLC.

“We’re happy to be part of the Superior community, happy to be serving the Superior public,” Luke Lindstrom said.

A grand opening is being planned for Sept .7.
