The move was made due, in part, to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sammy’s Pizza has shuttered its Superior restaurant, according to a Aug. 26 post on the Sammy’s Pizza & Restaurant Facebook page.

The decision to close the site permanently was based on health concerns with the restaurant’s leadership and the effects the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the business, according to the post.

The Sammy’s Pizza restaurant at 1908 Tower Ave. opened in the summer of 2016, roughly two and a half years after the Elbo Room location closed.

Anyone who has purchased gift cards for the Superior eatery can redeem them at other Sammy’s locations, including Duluth, Hermantown and Cloquet, the post said.
