Billings Park Cafe will close its doors permanently at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, but it's ending its run on a high note.
The restaurant’s loaded baked potato soup was recently crowned the winner of the SOUP Superior First competition, which took place in January.
“Matt did a great job selecting and preparing the perfect soup,” Owner Cheryl Miller said.
On the Billings Park Cafe Facebook page, Miller said she is closing the business to spend more time with family.
“We would love for everyone to come out and say goodbye to us, maybe pick up their cups from our cup rack,” Miller said. “We will miss each and every customer.”
She said they have made some lifelong friends through the business.
Other winners in the SOUP Superior First competition included:
Second place: Chicken dumpling soup at Superior Family Restaurant
Third Place: Shamrock Bar and Pizza for its chili
The special SOUPer Bowler award went to Red Mug Coffeehouse for being the ultimate soup joint. The business had votes for many of its soups, including the marvelous mushroom, thai tomato, cowboy lentil and creamy potato and smoked sausage soups.
SOUP Superior First organizer Brian Lammi said 73 votes were cast in the competition, more than he expected.
“I think in the end it was great,” he said. “The restaurants enjoyed it, the people enjoyed it and we did too.”
Birch, a boutique in Lake Nebagamon, has also announced it will be closing for good this month. A store closing sale will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 21-22, according to the its Facebook page.
