La Tequila Mexican Restaurant opened Monday, June 17, at 5802 Tower Ave., Superior, in the former home of City’s 58th Street Diner. Manager Brandy Flores said the opening day crowd was larger than expected, and a steady stream of customers came through the doors Tuesday, June 18.
“We’re excited to be here,” said Carlos Escobedo, whose son, Luis, owns the Superior restaurant.
La Tequila is a new branch of the family business. Carlos Escobedo’s first El Tequila restaurant opened in Hayward seven years ago. Two years ago, a second El Tequila restaurant opened in Spooner. He said his son chose to branch out to Superior because many people from the Twin Ports regularly travel to the Hayward restaurant.
“A lot of people know us from Hayward, so everybody comes and say ‘hi’ and ‘congratulations,’” Escobedo said.
Diners familiar with El Tequila will find a similar atmosphere and all the same foods at La Tequila, including a Mexican fish fry on Fridays.
Another La Tequila restaurant opened in Minong on April 22, but closed June 11 due to lack of business.
The new restaurant in Superior’s south end neighborhood is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
