Red Mug Coffeehouse held a soft opening for its mobile business Tuesday, Sept. 1 on the lawn of the Carnegie Library, 1204 Hammond Ave.

The cafe packs plenty of options into its silver “canned ham” trailer. In addition to an array of hot and cold beverages, Red Mug offered scones, quiches, soup, bread and croissants on its second day of operation Wednesday.

Barista Brecken Kenner said they’ve had good customer turnout. Most are regulars who have been monitoring the Red Mug Facebook page since the business closed the doors at its former location March 18.

“They’ve been waiting,” Kenner said.

Andrew Osterlund with North Carolina-based Osterlund Architects Inc. plans to renovate the historic library, built in 1902, into a co-working hub. Red Mug will move into the building once work is complete, which Osterlund said should be in the spring of 2021.

The mobile coffee house opens at 7 a.m. weekdays. Kenner said Red Mug will be open on weekends, as well, but didn’t have exact times. People can visit the Facebook page for updates on times and menu items.
