The U.S. Department of Agriculture says fraudulent faxes are being sent to phone numbers in Wisconsin, and several other states.

The USDA warns these fraudulent faxes include the USDA logo and seal and are signed by someone identified as Frank Rutenburg, with the title Senior Procurement Officer.

Jerad Albracht is with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer protection. He says the letters are bogus, "according to the USDA, the end game of the letters is the scammers trying to get personal information from their recipients, the USDA makes a particular note that people don't respond to any more or financial information."

The USDA wouldn't comment for this story. In a release, the department says it's investigating through the Office of the Inspector General and there are three other states that have seen similar letters. They are Alabama, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the USDA.
