An orange fence ringing a South Superior home is a precaution to keep people out of the structure until it is razed.

The fence and a security detail through Midwest Patrol have been a presence at 6902 Tower Ave. since late August. Enbridge purchased the property in order to meet expansion plans for the proposed Sandpiper pipeline and Line 3 replacement in Superior, according to spokeswoman Becky Haase.

It has become standard procedure for the company to utilize security fencing and personnel at acquired properties for public safety, she said. The property is part of the 14-mile segment of the proposed pipelines that stretches from the Minnesota border into Superior. Although the projects will more or less follow the existing line, Haase said, there are some deviations.
