Three businesses and two business professionals were recognized at the Superior-Douglas County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Chamber Business Awards on Thursday, March 7, in the Yellowjacket Union at University of Wisconsin-Superior.

More than 200 community members, business leaders and local and state officials, including state Sen. Janet Bewley, Rep. Nick Milroy and Superior Mayor Jim Paine, gathered to honor U-Haul Moving and Storage of Superior, winner of the New Business of the Year Award; American Family Insurance-Nick Korhonen Agency, winner of the Outstanding Young Business Award; St. Luke's Mariner Medical Clinic, winner of the Community Cornerstone Award; and Jeff Cushman of Downs Funeral Home, winner of the Outstanding Young Professional Award.

More than 20 local organizations were nominated for awards.

The Chamber Ambassador of the Year award was presented to Julie Urban of Gavilon Grain "for her dedication, positivity and hard work on behalf of the Chamber organization," according to a news release from the Chamber.

An independent panel of judges selected the winners for the New Business of the Year, Outstanding Young Business, Community Cornerstone and Outstanding Young Professional awards based on nominations made by community members and business leaders.
