KEY WEST, Fla. - Hurricane Irma pushed swelling seas toward the populous Tampa Bay area on Monday as the giant vortex of rain and wind lost some of its punch but still threatened danger as it continued up Florida's Gulf Coast, bringing storm surges and raging downpours. Irma had weakened Monday morning to a tropical storm as it moved about 100 miles north of Tampa, according to the National Hurricane Center, which said it was still producing some wind gusts near hurricane force.
Rush Limbaugh recently claimed that the media is manufacturing unwarranted panic about Hurricane Irma as part of a plot to hype climate change, boost ratings and increase advertising revenue from businesses that stand to make money off purchases of batteries and bottled water. Limbaugh then accused The Washington Post and other news outlets of twisting his words while simultaneously doubling down on his conspiracy theory on Thursday.
The alarming admission was delivered between labored breaths and anguished pauses. "I think I killed my (wife) . . ." a man's low voice says on the phone. The 911 operator asks him to elaborate: "What - what do you mean by that? What happened?" "I had a dream and then I turned on the lights and she's dead on the floor," the man says. "Um, I have blood all over me and there's a bloody knife on the bed and I think I did it."
President Donald Trump is expected to phase out the Obama-era program that grants work permits to about 800,000 undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children, but delay its end for six months to give Congress time to pass legislation to replace it, according to multiple people briefed on the president's discussions. Trump's plan remains fluid and could change, however, and administration officials stressed Sunday evening that the president has not finalized his decision. The White House has scheduled an announcement for Tuesday.
Disgraced MLB hit king Pete Rose was something of a surprise addition to Fox Sports' MLB studio show back in 2015, and while he was seen as a little rough around the edges, he generally garnered favorable reviews for his candid, crusty takes on modern-era baseball. In March, the network announced that Rose would be back for another season in 2017.
There's more excitement than usual at Marco's Pizza in Thornton, Colorado, since news spread Tuesday that a rare dinosaur fossil was unearthed at a construction site up the street.
CROSBY, Texas - The remnants of Hurricane Harvey carried its wrath up the Mississippi Delta on Thursday, but not before hammering the Gulf Coast with more punishing cloudbursts and growing threats that included explosions at a crippled chemical plant and a collapse of the drinking water system in a Texas city.
U.S. regulators approved a revolutionary new treatment from Novartis that modifies the body's own immune-system cells and reinjects them to treat, and in many cases cure, patients with deadly blood cancers who have run out of other options. Known as CAR-T therapy, the Novartis treatment is the first of several such drugs under development or review. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the approval Wednesday, weeks ahead of schedule.
HOUSTON - The biggest rainstorm in the history of the continental United States finally began to move away from Houston on Tuesday, as the remnants of Hurricane Harvey and its endless, merciless rain bands spun east to menace Louisiana instead. But, after more than 50 inches of rain over four days, Houston was less of a city and more of an archipelago: a chain of urbanized islands in a muddy brown sea. All around it, flat-bottomed boats and helicopters were still plucking victims from rooftops, and water was still pouring in from overfilled reservoirs and swollen rivers.
WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump reiterated Tuesday that "all options are on the table" following North Korea's latest provocative missile launch, this one fired over Japan and into the Pacific Ocean. "The world has received North Korea's latest message loud and clear: this regime has signaled its contempt for its neighbors, for all members of the United Nations, and for minimum standards of acceptable international behavior," Trump said in a statement.
