Scholarship Peter Nelson of Superior received a $4,000 University Scholarship from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Nelson is the child of Sarah and Chris Kerkes, and intends to major in music education. Fellowship Eliza Wheeler, a Solon Springs native living in Los Angeles, received a Sendak Fellowship for 2017. The four-week residency program supports artists who tell stories with illustration. Wheeler's debut children's book, "Miss Maple's Seeds," earned a spot on the New York Times bestseller list in 2013.
Sunday Duluth: The Zeitgeist Theater, 222 E. Superior St., hosts a holiday screening of "The Santa Clause" at 2 p.m. Enjoy free popcorn during the film, and hot cocoa and cookies afterward. Free but donations will be collected for juvenile diabetes.

Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1924 Wyoming Ave., Superior, is hosting a "Blue Christmas" service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The service is designed to let people know they are not alone in their pain. The Superior High School boys hockey team had its two-game win streak snapped with a 4-0 loss to Cloquet-Esko-Carlson Tuesday night at Wessman Arena.
The Superior High School girls hockey team defeated the North Shore Storm for the second time in less than a week 5-2 Monday night at the Superior Ice Arena.
